Atlanta-raised and Brooklyn-based producer, DJ, and artist girl_irl is a driving force of the self-described genre “industrial pop”. Forged by years of blending techno, pop, and industrial music as an underground-club-packing and runway-soundtracking DJ, they began releasing singles in 2021, floating their instantly-iconic unbothered deadpan voice over glitched-out percussion and booming basses. They’ve since collaborated across genres and scenes with the likes of UK techno figurehead Manni Dee, Brazilian-based club producer Crosstalk, Monstercat royalty Varien, and NYC dance-pop staple moistbreezy.
‘palpitation pack,’ crystallizes the essentials of this industrial pop sound. In contrast with Moment’s typical melodic pop focus, this pack is full of rhythmic and bass-heavy grooves, instantly danceable songstarters to get your heart pumping and the grimy synths, hyped-up FX, and gritty vocals to bring it home.
“Putting any sort of art out and taking any sort of art in are both acts of releasing and processing emotion,” girl_irl tells us. “I wanted the world of this pack to feel cryptic and clubby while still having an emotional pull. I took sounds from the highs and lows of everyday life that excite me and translated them into tools for the depths of the club.”
