Splice Originals producer Xan Young teamed up with retro soul outfit Youngtones to create this hip hop production toolkit, incorporating learnings from over 300 packs. Time Travel: Resampled Soul contains a wide variety of instruments recorded in a ’70s soul throwback fashion. These recordings were mixed together and then printed through an Anamod ATS-1 tape emulator for ear candy songstarters ripe for sampling. The loops were resampled using MPC-style techniques with beats and drum one-shots added. The drum programming and resampling were influenced by the greats—Dilla, RZA, Timbaland, and Flying Lotus. The soul music elements were influenced by the Chi-Lites, Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield, the Delphonics, and more. The results are both old school and new school, thus the name: Time Travel.
